Photocatalytic Degradation of Organic Dyes from Clinical Laboratory Wastewater

Clinical laboratory wastewaters are of important environmental concern due to the highly complex chemical reagents and dyes used identify various pathologies, which difficult degrade by conventional treatment methods. The present research aimed assess effects ilmenite use in discoloration process clinical wastewater. wastewater originates from a Gram staining pathogenic microorganisms biological samples. active ingredient is crystal violet, triphenylmethane dye derivative, toxic non-biodegradable that causes shiny purple color was characterized X-ray Fluorescence, Diffraction, Scanning Electron Microscopy, energy-dispersive spectroscopy Nitrogen adsorption isotherm, while measured UV–Vis spectrophotometry pH change trough reaction time, evaluating different loads, particle size stability under light sources with energies. Chemical oxygen demand analysis confirmed acid formation were associated organic substance mineralization. Type C ultraviolet 0.7 g/L load identified as best operating conditions for process. It possible establish stable after four uses process, obtaining, all cases, percentages higher than 90% 3 h irradiation.
